No milk porridge

I love breakfast: it is my favourite meal!

When I get up I am always hungry and I have a sweet tooth so I usually prepare something quick since I then go to work and my lunch break is around 1:30 pm.

I don't want to experience lack of energy during the morning because I can't focus properly on my tasks, that's why as I live in London I embraced a super healthy English habit: porridge.

I just adore it! It's delicious and filling plus you can do it in a hundred different ways (I tend to get bored quite easily). The ingredients are nutritious and balanced: mashed banana, rolled oat, milk and spices. Amazing! That's all I need to start my day (and a good cup of espresso of course...).

Oat is perfect because it keeps me full for hours as it has a decent part of proteins, it doesn't rise sugar levels in the blood stream too quickly and it's a better choice than cereals. I'm not going to write down the classic recipe, you can Google it if you want, I will share with you guys my personal way to do it. I do like cow milk but I don't drink it because it make me feel bloated and I would like to cut my calories intake so I don't use it.


-1 ripe banana

-1/2 cup of rolled oat

-1 teaspoon sugar free cocoa powder

-1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder

-1 cup hot water

-1 teaspoon grated coconut

-1/2 teaspoon mix of seeds ( I use the one from LIDL "Alesto" is the brand)

fruit to garnish.

-Fill the kettle at the minimum (it should be enough for a cup) and bring to boil.

-Put the cocoa powder in a cup and then pour the hot water, stir well until it's smooth.

-In a small bowl, mash the ripe banana with a fork then add oat, cinnamon, coconut flakes and chia seeds.

-Pour the hot water with the cocoa powder in the bowl and stir all the ingredients. It will be quite watery, but no panic! In order to make it creamy, put it covered in the microwave for 1 minute. If it's still too loose you can do extra 30 sec or leave it covered for another minute inside.

-After that stir it one more time, add the fruit you want (I adore berries or pear slices on top of it) and if you feel like you need extra flavour you can also add:

- a teaspoon of Nutella

- peanut butter or

- honey!

I really like to change it every morning, sometimes I add crushed almonds or pistachios instead if the mix of seeds, or I use non dairy milk such as soy or almond as a substitute of the hot cocoa water. You can basically do whatever you want, it is going to be yummy all the time.
