All the best home made face masks

Ciao, welcome back to my blog!

How are you guys?

Today's post will be about all the best homemade face masks recipes that I have tried during quarantine. Since I have been furloughed from work in March I had much more free time to spend searching for new ways of improving my skin care and also to make it more sustainable.

I made a lot of researches online, mainly on Pinterest (thank God for Pinterest), followed by a great deal of experiments in my kitchen and this is the final list of the ultimate recipes that I loved and that I will keep doing instead of buying another store bought face mask.

The reasons are only two but very simple and convincing to me:

  • they are much cheaper

  • they are way more effective

I have been obsessed by skin care since I turned 30 and I have been dealing with some sun damages so I used to invest a lot of money into face masks in the past.

At the same time I have always wanted to try to find a more sustainable option because it felt somehow wrong to use those amazing face masks sheets only once and then throw them away.

On the other hand I felt a bit skeptic about DIY and I thought it would have been messy and time consuming when I only wanted to relax and chill. Well, I was wrong!

Mother Nature already give us plenty of incredible gifts and natural remedies that we can use to improve our skin and there is really no need to buy expensive chemical ones and then when checking the packaging on the list of ingredients it is written : "made with caffein extract, made with honey and so on".

Just use actual coffee and honey then!

So here we are, I am so excited to share the best recipes with you guys!

They are all super easy and quick to make, the ingredients are present in everyone's pantry or fridge and it is actually fun to make them!

I am starting with my absolute favourite:

Hydrating mask

This is soooo amazing: my skin has never felt more supple and soft. The result is immediate and even my boyfriend could see a difference.

Ingredients:

A tablespoon of plain white yogurt

A few drops of lemon juice

A teaspoon of honey

Mix all the above together in a small bowl and stir well.

Apply on your clean face and leave it on for 15 minutes

Wash it away with only water and pat your skin dry

Apply your favourite moisturiser

In this picture I have zero make up on my face (only a bit of mascara on my lashes) and absolutely no filters.

My skin is usually dry and sensitive, prone to redness and I have to be very careful to what I put on my face or I will have breakouts and discomfort but I wish you could feel how smooth was right after the face mask! That's why I feel that this one will be suitable for literally everybody.

Nourishing face mask:

Banana has moisturising and antioxidant properties with the addition of honey and olive oil to straighten the anti-ageing effect. On my dry skin was a real treat: not sure if it is suitable for oily skin though. I would like to highlight the fact that our neck needs attention too and I was guilty of neglecting it as ell but it will actually show sign of age even sooner than our ace, so better take care of it daily!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 ripe banana

  • 1 teaspoon of olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon honey

Peel and mash the banana so that no lumps remain. Add honey and olive oil and mix well.

Apply the paste all over your face and neck.

Leave it on for 15 minutes and then rinse with lukewarm water.

Firming face mask:

I have tried this one a couple of times when I felt that the tone of my skin was loosing strength, if it make sense and I think this one is more for mature skin but I will have it once a month as a preventive measure. The only thing is that having an egg on the face is not the most pleasant thing (it smells a bit) but I must admit that it is a great method for a quick fix if you are tired and need something that acts fast.

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg white

  • 1tbsp honey

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

The complex peptides present in eggs tone the skin and make it firmer.

Separate the egg white from the yolk and the other ingredients.

Mix all until smooth and apply on your face.

Let it dry and leave it for 5 minutes.

Peel it off and then rinse with lukewarm water.

Oatmeal face mask:

It is a great alternative to the classic clay face masks as it will absorb impurities but it will be more gentle on the skin therefore it will be ideal for sensitive skin.

  • 1 tablespoon oats

  • 1 tablespoon gram flour

  • 1 teaspoon honey

  • Rosewater

Grind the oats (I just put them in a bag and crush it with a rolling pin) to get a grainy powder.

Add gram flour, honey, and enough rose water to make a paste.

Apply this pack on your face and neck and leave it on for 10 minutes.

Rinse with cool water to close your pores.

The eye area is where I need more "support" since I turned 30 as I experienced tired and puffy eyes as long as dark circles very often and the recipe below are really life savers!

I make them weekly and the difference between before and the after is immediate.

De-puffing eye mask:

  • teaspoon of fresh coffee grounds

  • 1/2 teaspoon of coconut oil

  • a bit of water

Swollen eye remedy:

Chilled green tea or black tea bags are a great remedy for puffy and heavy eyes.

Put some used tea bags in the freezer for 15 minutes.

Then damp the tea bags on your eyes for 10-15 minutes.

Bright eye mask:

1 teaspoon turmeric powder

2 tbsp of pineapple juice or honey.

Mix these ingredients and once ready put it in the fridge for 20 minutes.

Apply the mask for 30 minutes under your eyes every day for two weeks.

Blackheads on the nose are really annoying and I used to buy the classic strips but they are expensive and they not solving the problem most of the time.

I have tried to steam my face but it is a bit to harsh on my skin so I have tried the recipe below and I found that is the best remedy so far!

Blackheads remedy:

1 tbsp of baking soda

1 tbsp of honey

2 tbsp of salt

Start making a fine paste my mixing all the ingredients

Apply the paste on your nose and leave it for 8 minutes

Rinse off the mixture with warm water

That's all for now but I will continue my researches and my experiments with them and obviously I will keep you posted.

Thank you for reading my article today, I hope you found it interesting.

Let me know if you try any of these recipes yourself and how it goes!

Have a lovely start of the week all!
