One basic item 3 ways of styling it
Ciao gente! Hello everyone!
I hope you guys are well and safe!
This week my fashion post will be about how to style 4 basic items in three different ways each!
I decided to restrain myself from buying clothes or fashion related items for a whole month as I am on my way to a more minimalistic life. While stuck at home I started to declutter what was not useful anymore and I realised that, despite I have been on a minimalistic journey for years now, I was slowly and unawarely accumulating again. It is easily done when working in retail when you heavy discounts are always available! Also the fact that I have got more space now didn't helped either. So I made a pile of old stuff for charity and some of the newest and more valuable items will be (hopefully) sold on Ebay/Gumtree once the virus situation will get better.
I am really determined to make the most of my current wardrobe so I've put together some cute outfits using a basic item and then styling it in 3 different ways.
It is definitely possible to combine a capsule wardrobe and still have plenty of options to wear. It enhances my creativity and I am having fun styling what I already own.
The items I chose are among my most worn items for Spring in general as they are super versatile and flattering for my bodyshape:
- a denim mini skirt
- a striped mini dress (but it will work with any kind of plain or printed mini dress you have)
-a pair of white skinny jeans ( I know skinny jeans are not "trendy" anymore but I don't care. I still like them and I am wearing them a lot)
-a black satin midi skirt
Gap high rise distressed denim skirt
Cos striped t-shirt dress
Abercrombie & Fitch ultra high rise white jeans
And other stories bias cut satin midi skirt
Colour-wise, I like to play it safe most of the times as you might know already, as I own mainly plain colours and a few classic printed items. A neutral palette (navy + white +tan + black) is crucial for a capsule wardrobe to achieve cohesiveness and also I prefer it for practical reasons. In order to bright things up, accessories with pop of colour are necessary and I am obsessed with mustard yellow lately when I am not using one of my all times favourite, which is bright red.
I can't stress enough about the importance of little things that make the difference: some nice pieces of jewellery, a pair of sunnies and lipstick.
I am definitely not big with hair styling but I try my best to change sometimes to match the vibe of my outfit. There is not need for fancy hair accessories, a bit of creativity is enough! A cute vintage foulard used as a tie for a classic sleek low ponytail, a simple braid style or a twisted ponytail will add a cool touch to the whole look .
All the below outfits are suitable for the unpredictable British Spring weather as I only just need to add a pair of tights and a trench coat if it's colder.
Almost everything that I am wearing here is old so I will make sure to link available alternatives in case you would like to add some pieces for you.
