June most loved

Ciao, welcome back to my blog!

How's it going guys?

I honestly can't believe we are gong to be in July on Wednesday, it is crazy how fast time is going for me right now! This month has been a rather quiet one, I have been writing a lot, working out almost everyday and enjoyed the warm weather in my local park. I also went to the beach for day during the heatwave. Much needed!

But without further due, I will list all the best items of the month, everything that I tried and loved.

The most popular trend of the summer! At the beginning I was a bit skeptical that they could be flattering but I had to change my mind. I love the cut in several fits, from the skinny to the more relaxed.

I am so into it that I decided to cut an old pair of black jeans to test it first and I am really chuffed with the result. I really wanted them with the raw hem which is so cool!

They are sooo easy to style and perfect for a minimalist wardrobe: a simple cotton top, a pair of sandals or trainers and it is done!

If you don't want to sacrifice a pair of jeans, H&M is having massive discounts right now and the shots below are almost identical to mine and in the sale too.

I love that kind of edgy look! I would wear them simply with a black tank top and a pair of sneakers or summery flat sandals.

If denim is not floating your boat, a good alternative I am keeping my eyes on is a more classic looser fit.

The one below is from Uniqlo and it is available in 8 great colours for summer in a linen cotton blend fabric which is ideal for the heatwave days. This kind of fit is suitable for all body shapes, perfect for both the city life and the holidays. I consider them a wise investment piece for the warmer months!

Another cool option if you prefer a longer and more tailored version comes from Mango. These pleated bermuda shorts are perfect for the office: they are super chic and also on sale!

Organic beetroot & radish pickle by Riverford.

You just can't go wrong with Riverford's food. From their fresh seasonal food boxes to the pantry goods such as pickles.

I loooove pickles, all year round, especially as a savoury side with meat.

This one below is my latest obsession and it is so delicious that I have tried to make it on my own! Stay tuned, the recipe will come soon!

Food delivery

It was Nic's birthday on the 18th and he was really craving a good pizza but he didn't want me to cook as I already made him delicious Japanese pancakes in the morning so we had a look online and we found a great Italian restaurant on Deliveroo called Venerdi.

We ordered a pizza each (with burrata cheese and ham for me and with N'duja for him) and a couple of classic starters, (marinated mussels for me and fried squid for him). The food came on time, no leaks in the bag, the portions were rather good and it was excellent!

The prices are slightly higher compared to other similar restaurants but it is totally worth it: you will be eating genuine high quality Italian food.

Highly recommended for your next order!

(Sorry for the quality of the pic: I was too hungry and I couldn't be arsed to take a decent one)

Break my heart from Dua Lipa

No surprises here, I am obsessed with her music and I admire her style! I have basically listened to it the whole month on loop!

I have tried to educate myself as much as possible about the BAME after what happened and it was really hard to select one, but I decided top opt for " Slay In Your Lane: The Black Girl Bible" by Yomi Adegoke and Elizabeth Uviebinené.

The great reviews that you can find online comment on their own how ‘This book is a gift for anyone who wants to better understand what Black women and girls are up against – and the tremendous resources they draw upon as they make their way in the world’ Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook and founder of LeanIn.Org and OptionB.Org

Slay In Your Lane is a brilliant book about what it is like to be a woman, black and a Londoner in 2018. Everyone should read it’ Sadiq Khan- Mayor of London.

To be a black woman in London means having to work twice as good as white women and triple compared to men and also dealing with micro-aggressions on a daily basis, the social pressure to tone your personality down in order to not being perceived as an "angry black woman".

Something that really made me stop and think.

I really couldn't wait any longer to dye my hair: my roots were inches long and I saw way too many grey hair for my liking. There is nothing wrong with grey hair if you like them and embrace the look, feel free to call me vain or unconfident but it doesn't work for me.

The only sight of them in the mirror had the power to made me feel depressed and unkept.

So one glorious morning, I went to Superdrug and bought 2 packages ( one would not have been enough as my hair are rather long now).

I have always been faithful to Nutrisse but this time I tried Olia to give my hair a deep conditioning treatment and also to avoid the unpleasant small of ammonia.

I must say I am rather happy with the result. Despite I intentionally picked a lighter shade, the colour looks very natural and even, all my grey hair are now covered and I feel better.

If you want to have a relaxing family evening, then you might want to watch this movie on Netflix: I absolutely loved it!

It is about three lifelong friends who plan to rob their local bank that swindled them out of their pension money in order to come through for themselves and their loved ones.

It was released in 2017 but I somehow missed it and I am so glad I watched it now because it is hilarious, the actors are great and they prove that they still have lots to teach younger actors about comedies!

Self care

I am a huge fan of natural remedies when it comes to health and beauty as they are usually more effective and kinder on the planet. That's why I was super excited when I received an email of collaboration from HighKind, which is a family run business from Conwy (UK).

I made some researches and found out that it is a trustworthy place to buy legal, high quality and 100% natural CBD products.

CBD oil is made by extracting CBD from the cannabis plant, then diluting it with a carrier oil like coconut or hemp seed oil.

It is very popular at the moment in the wellness world for its potential role in easing symptoms of many common health issues, including anxiety, depression, acne, seizure and pain relief.

Highkind create all of the products themselves - using premium organic hemp extracts to create pure uncut oils and concentrates that are free from any chemical residues. Transparency really matters to them, which is why their entire catalogue is tested by an independent laboratory for purity and authenticity.

I tried their "Focus" CBD oil in drops the day I got it in the post instead of drinking my usual coffee in the afternoon to keep mental fatigue at bay.

The best way to take the drops is to place straight under the tongue and hold it there for at least 60 seconds before swallowing. The CBD is much more effective when it is digested this way as opposed to diluting it with water, which I discovered after a few days.

I often experience lack of energy after lunch especially what it is hot outside and this product really helped in the most gentle way possible: I didn't feel on edge like sometimes happens with caffeine drinks.

I was more productive, awake and concentrate overall whilst feeling calm and relaxed, if it makes sense. I know I will make good use of these drops once I will get back to work to boost mental clarity and focus throughout the day.

They also have a wide range of concentrates, vapes and oil for all needs, so if you are interested visit their website and support small UK businesses!

And that was it for June!
